Urbanveld was born out of a desire to explore local landscape construction techniques and indigenous materials in order to achieve the highest possible standard of finish on all our projects.
Urbanveld was founded by Gavin Brand in 2012. The office is based in Cape Town, South Africa. Gavin obtained a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pretoria in 2005. The office draws from many years of experience working throughout South Africa.
The practise was born out of a desire to explore local landscape construction techniques and indigenous materials in order to achieve the highest possible standard of finish on all our projects. We have a fresh outlook on natural, urban and agricultural landscapes and their meaning in today’s society. We enjoy working with a variety of specialists and creative people from very different fields and closely supervise the construction and maintenance of our projects in order to realise our design intent.
We aim to develop projects that have beautiful edges or junctions, are robust, sustainable, age well and serve the needs of the client or community they are designed for.
