The house is situated on the edge of a stream with beautiful mature shrubs, old trees and views of Table Mountain as a backdrop. We aimed to create distinct outdoor ‘rooms’ in order to maximise on indoor-outdoor living opportunities at all times of the day. Decking levels adjacent to the home was kept to the exact same level as interior floor levels. The sunniest area in the garden was reserved for a new rectangular Berea lawn framed by very narrow off-shutter concrete walls to frame the various levels and a feature precast concrete staircase was designed to link the lawn area with a sunken shade garden below. The new planting included a neat evergreen hedge around the lawn area to create permanent structure in the garden.
